Call of the Wild


The green ribbon with its cute green leaves is what inspired this entire design.  I just thought it was cute and so I let that take me wherever.  It started with playing around with the background where I allowed the inks to flow in both directions after some modelling paste through a stencil.  I then saw these old incense sticks I have kept (because crafting makes you save everything, just in case!)  So I managed to use a few of those up and then I rummaged through my wooden Kaisercraft embellishment stash and found a few things and then we started with the paper.  Built it up, wove the ribbon around and stuck it down in a few places to ensure it stays but does not interfere with the photo area.  

I then went out and walked around the yard as I needed some white feathers and I just know that one of my chickens or the visiting cockatoos would have left me some somewhere.  Found, glued and a few other bits and pieces.  A little birdy in the corner and some white splatters and design is complete.  it is very cute and I really love it.  I left all the wooden embellishments in their natural state as they worked perfectly.

Trying my hand at some mixed media canvas art

Time to get my act back together and start showing off my creativity once again!  Despite my lack of posting, I have actually been doing quite alot.  Challenging myself with some projects and then churning out lots of scrapbook pages and enjoying every minute of it. Firstly, a couple of canvases, the first one was very challenging.  I even threw it out at one point and then went back and got it out of the bin and kept going and I do love the finished product. The second canvas I did in landscape format using pretty Finnabair and Dusty Attic stencils, plus some lovely Dusty Attic chipboard pieces.  I am trying to teach myself to do the heavy layering that so many of my favourite scrapbooking artists do.  Personally, I find it extremely challenging to do as so much goes on and gets covered up I just don't seem to be able to find my peace with it.  Anyway, this is my attempt and I am very happy with it, plus it was extremely enjoyable to do! Fabscraps Fabscrappin'

I have been so busy off in creative world, oh and baby chickens!  8 of them almost all at the same time and to top it off, it is raining and cold and windy and so they want outside and that just cannot happen for long periods, so I am up and down and in and out.  In between that, I have been cooking alot, as clearly my 17yo is going through a growth spurt - she is perpetually hungry! Anyway, I got to do some work for Fabscraps as part of the guest design team competing against the main design team.  The paper range is C100 which has lots of 1800s images and cogs and alot would think steampunk, but that is not what I saw, I was inspired by the various images and they made me think of the Era of Invention of the 1800s and so I designed an 8 panelled hot air balloon, complete with basket.   Think Discovery, Invention, Engineering, Industry, Mechanical, Fashion, Theatre and Music, Magic and Illusion.  This is what I saw in this collection and that is how the 8 panels are designed. Halloween Colours - A Nice Mix

I am very much so a freewheeling designer, I do not plan or pick out things I wish to use beforehand, it all just happens very organically and evolves.  I did know that I wished to use purple and orange with a touch of green as my colour mix and I had just bought this piece of Imaginarium designs chipboard frame.  I love layers and never do flat designs and lots of texture.  I went on a spending spree and got some new leaf dies as well, so I got to use them throughout as well. These colours are traditionally used for Halloween, but that is not what this design is for particularly, though the end owner may like to use it for that, I just like the colours mixed together.  There are many flowers throughout from a variety of sources, a few ribbons here and there and then loads more.  I very much enjoyed creating this layout.  I realise alot of people create a layout within a day, but that is not really my style, I take about 3 days to fully complete it.  I like to look at it, thin
